Pallet Courier & Same-Day Pallet Delivery: What UK Businesses Need to Know

Pallet pricing works differently to parcel pricing. Four things move the price: pallet size and weight (a standard UK pallet is 1.2m x 1m, but oversized or double-stacked pallets cost more), distance and route (a return-leg job is often cheaper than a one-way run), vehicle type (tail-lift vans handle most pallets, but heavier loads need a Luton or 7.5-tonne truck), and collection/delivery access (loading bay access is quicker and cheaper than a kerbside hand-unload).

Same-day pallet jobs typically cost more than next-day pallet network rates because you're booking a dedicated vehicle and driver rather than sharing space on a multi-drop trunking route — but for time-critical freight, that dedicated run is the point.

Same-day pallet delivery gets booked most often by manufacturers and trade suppliers sending machine parts or materials to keep a production line running, construction and building merchants moving materials to site same-day, event and exhibition organisers shifting stands, stock, or equipment between venues, and retailers or wholesalers covering an urgent stock shortfall at a store or depot.

If a delay costs more than the courier fee — a stalled production line, a missed install slot, an empty shelf during a trading day — same-day pallet delivery is usually the cheaper option, even though the per-job price is higher than standard freight.

Can any courier take a pallet?
No — most standard parcel couriers won't take a full pallet. You need a courier with tail-lift or dedicated freight vehicles, which is a smaller pool than parcel-only providers.

How fast can a pallet be delivered same-day?
It depends on distance and traffic, but a same-day pallet job can typically be collected within a couple of hours of booking and delivered the same afternoon for most UK mainland routes.

Do I need a loading bay to send or receive a pallet?
No, but it helps. Drivers can hand-unload with a pump truck at ground-level access, though this can add time and, on some jobs, cost.
